Ships and Ferries The only way to reach Japan by sea is FROM South Korea, North Korea, China, Tiawan and the Asiatic coast of Russia. Japan can no longer be reached by sea FROM other European countries or FROM North America. The ships that leave FROM the locations mentioned to Japan do not have regularly scheduled routes and tend to be expensive. The best way to reach Japan is by air.
