For the traditional arts, you may want to watch one of these performances: Kabuki, a Japanese form of theater with spectacular costumes. Noh, another form of Japanese drama. Bunraku, a performance carried out not by humans, but by puppets. You can see the people moving the puppets, though; they bring these puppets to life. Traditional dances displayed periodically throughout the year, usually during the cherry blossom season and in the autumn.
For specific schedules and locations, please contact the local tourist office in the area of the performance. You may also find listings in newspapers or other media sources.
